To Robert Scoble and team about Start.com

Hey Robert Scoble and team, this post is in response to our post. Wanted to put a comment, but for some reasons your comment link was not responding so gave up and started writing this post.

OK, http://www.start.com/myw3b/ does not work well with my Firefox. This is what I am using:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2; en-US; rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050417 Firefox/1.0.4 (stipe s8v4). I do not get anything for the ‘Home’ page bit, i.e. not getting the feeds on the home page. Than the link does not work at all with Opera 8.0 (All I get is a blank page with Search box on it). I have had mentioned about some of the issues I faced while trialing before in this post. It does’nt work with Firefox, which means that I cannot see it.

The feature I want the most is auto discovery of feeds, which is not happening at this stage. I hope the team can fix this up soon.

Finally tabbed browsing in IE is possible

Don’t know how I missed this big news in my busy schedule these days ( I did not see many posts talking about tabbed browsing in IE using MSN Desktop Search) but finally you can enjoy tabbed browsing feature in IE. Go to http://toolbar.msn.com/ and download the latest version of MSN Windows Desktop Search tool. I have just installed it and am using it now. Looks OK for now and a good start. Hey, does this mean that I will see many power toys coming up in the coming future to compete with all the available features that I get to use with Firefox using different extensions? Let’s see how this goes ahead.

Yahoo and Dialpad, Yahoopad or YahooDial

Till before half an hour back, I was still under the impression that Yahoo was looking at buying Skype as reported on the blogosphere few days back. Not anymore by the looks of it, as it is confirmed that Yahoo has bought Dialpad. Tools are getting more and more powerful in what they have to offer. I am loving the competition here, as we as consumers are getting the best deals. If not for competition than I don’t think things would be moving at this faster pace. Everyday brings one or the other news that keeps the Technology world excited about something or the other. So I will name the new merger ;), what about Yahoopad or YahooDial 🙂 :).

Thanks to Nirav for the link to the news.

Good move Microsoft

Microsoft’s deal with Indonesian government for pirated copy is slashdotted. I think it is a very wise and realistic move too. I think Microsoft prices it’s software based on US currency (in short it’s just too expensive). It just’s too expensive for common people and people who do not use computer so much to justify spending the dollar on Microsoft Operating Systems and applications.

Microsoft make a similar move in India and rate it at 1 rupees and see how much money you can get in India rupees, the money you would have not expected into your accounts. Have a similar deal in US too (keep the price at $5) 🙂 and you will be surprised to see how many people will spend that price to have their copy legalised.

I really don’t think that people are ready to spend money on Software as easily they can do it for hardware. They know hardware cannot be pirated whereas software can be. I was talking to my friends and their friends last weekend on piracy and telling them that buying licensed copy is a good thing to do. They laughed at me and said licenses are for office and not for home purpose ( Ofcourse I disagree).

What is Apple’s real target?

Apple’s move to Intel processors is going all over the Internet. I don’t think many people (80% of people who don’t read blogs) care about it. Do I? Not really. If I fail to understand why should I than can somebody give me one good reason that why should I care about it?

Read a post from Tim Beyer on Mootley Fool that Apple’s read target is Dell. What do you think? I can see some logic into what Tim’s saying.
