What ‘Ambitious’ are you?

We’re not big fans of what I consider “vertical” ambition—that is, the usual career-path trajectory, in which a newbie moves up the ladder from associate to manager to vice president over a number of years of service. On the other hand, we revere “horizontal” ambition—in which employees who love what they do are encouraged to dig deeper, expand their knowledge, and become better at it. We always try to hire people who yearn to be master craftspeople, that is, designers who want to be great designers, not managers of designers; developers who want to master the art of programming, not management.

The above article has made me think about ‘Ambition’ and being ‘Ambitious’. There is a need to recognize the fact about having two types of ambitious people, vertical and horizontal. Secondly people on both sides of horizon need to respect each other. In this world we need people of both the types.

In various aspects of our life, we can be vertically ambitious in certain aspects and horizontally ambitious in others.

I am vertically ambitious when it comes to my career but horizontal ambitious when it comes to other aspects of my life.

What about you?

Poke The Box with PURPOSE

Recently I read Seth Godin’s book – Poke The Box
http://www.amazon.com/Poke-Box-Seth-Godin/dp/1936719002. The book does
get it point across and I am happy that I took the time to read the
book. Easily the best return I have got on my $1 ever!

But one thing I will like to point out is first Poke The Box and
identify your PURPOSE. You can start and ship lot of things but might
not be as effective if they are not aligned to your purpose. Yes it
has to be your purpose! On the other hand if your purpose is clear you
will be starting a lot more things and shipping them.

So you will like to wait for iPad 3?

Good for you! I liked to be wowed again and again. I will be wowed with iPad2 and then possibly again with iPad3. You on the other hand can remain content with whatever you currently have or use and keep bitching about why getting iPad2 is not a good idea. Again good for you if you think that is going to make you happy! Remember iPad4 or something better will be around the corner when iPad3 gets released and that will be mind blowing. But all you want to do is wait for something better to come (at least that is what you have been telling yourself).

No you do not have to buy everything latest and the greatest. That should be defined by the purpose of your usage but don’t fool yourself with silly excuses and don’t misguide others.

Brilliant Idea

Brilliant Idea because:

1. It is doing the site visitors some good. The site allows them to relax and think/ponder
2. The site’s simplicity is its beauty
3. The site has business potential, if nothing more the site will make money alone of its Amazon powered book store
4. The site is creating a community on its Facebook page.

Mac App Store rocks because..

Mac App Store rocks because:

  • I can go to one site to find that app that will meet my requirements
  • I need to download the updates from one interface
  • I have one account to manage my purchases and do not have to worry about security as much
  • Need to remember one username and password to purchase my apps
  • I can explore more apps from one place
  • I can get great bargains on the apps
  • I am more likely to get the games and apps that I love on iPad and iPhone onto my Mac through Mac App Store

Macappstore #justsaying

So today, Apple launched Mac App Store. People can complain, criticise and jump up and down as much as they like, but the reality is, it rocks and it's going to change a lot again as it did with iPhones and iPads.

More power to:
  • developers. There products will get exposed more, more sales and thus more better products.
  • users who can now explore more apps and try them at a decent price. Better products from developers means it will make a user's life even better by making them more productive, keeping them more entertained and more informed.
  • Apple who is going to make a huge amount of money selling apps and potentially selling a lot more Macs
There is a conversation on Facebook by my friend @SanjayVyas about Microsoft Marketplace and how they haven't fully made the most out of it so far but how Microsoft will jump up and down to try to do a lot more with Windows Marketplace now.
