Melbourne Geek Dinner

Hello All,
Looks like we have atleast 5 people already signed up for the Melbourne Geek Dinner. So I plan to have a geek dinner this Friday (26th August,2005). The meeting will be in the city at the corner of Elizabeth and Bourke Street. It’s a Pizza Hut restaurant (1st Floor). It will be nice if we all gather there between 6:30 and 6:45 PM.

I had to select city as it is the most convenient place for most of us to meet and it is easier travel wise as well (ofcourse, for most of us). And I had to select Friday as it is preferred day compared to a normal weekday and people are more relaxed as well.

I will like to invite all the Geeks to come and join us. You can join us if you are not from Melbourne and visiting Melbourne. Everybody is welcome. The intention is to have an event such as this on an ongoing basis and regular basis.

So try your best to come and meet other geeks. Please RSVP to me by 5:00 P.M. Thursday so I can make the necessary bookings. You can find my email address on the side panel of this blog, alternatively , you can call me on my mobile on “0412 940 169”.

If you have a blog than post about this on your blog so we can have more people coming to this Geek dinner. If not than email your friends about this. Alright than I will keep you updated about this event. See you all on Friday.

Matt, reminder for you, don’t forget your camera ;).

Start.com query

I am liking the new Microsoft Search engine the more I use it. I just love when I search something and hit ‘Esc’ on my keyboard. That is kewl (oh cool). Hey Guys at Microsoft, what are the chances that you all come with up with a feature that I can check my Gmail account using Start.com site (Microsoft Search Engine) like I can on customised Google home page right now.

Keep up the good work.

What about another Melbourne Geek Dinner?

Hello Melbourians! Hope you all are doing fine. Hey guys what about another Melbourne blog Geek dinner? We can arrange it in the city somewhere so it is convenient to most of us here. I was hoping we can have something by the end of this month?

So guys, put your comments down. What do you think Cameron Reilly, William Luu, Vashist Vishal, Matt of Sublime Software (Matt, don’t forget your Camera mate 😉 )? Cameron you can even extend this invitation to the bunch of people who attended the last Meetup that you organised. Let’s have another geeky meetup. I am more than happy to organise it all.

Looking forward to seeing you all.

Microsoft Roaming Favorites Beta

Bink.nu | Microsoft Roaming Favorites Beta

After reading the short description, I think this should be interesting. I hope it does a lot more than just roaming favourites. It should do atleast all that;s done on Del.icio.us and much more. I am not sure what percentage of hard core bloggers and RSS users are still using bookmarks on a regular basis. I for one is hardly touching my bookmarks now. I remember the days when I was ready to pay for services like Blinkx to host my bookmarks and to keep them roaming.I use my bookmarks now a days for bookmarklets, for a bookmark for ‘Route Planner’ website and that’s it. All else goes onto my blog and on Del.icio.us.

Is this the case where Microsoft is trying to create all the nice little services that users are getting used to these days, so that  customers only have to bitch about Microsoft!! They got blogs, search engine that is comparitively good as other search engines, RSS aggregator (or will have soon), tabbed browser and now bookmarks.

By the way how many people are still using Wallop? I don’t see many people using it or talking about it now a days. I think Orkut has faded away as well. I still get many requests for invite to Orkut from my previous blog http://geekswithblogs.net/tpatel but I don’t see a lot of buzz on blogosphere about it.

Will I be able to integrate Microsoft Roaming Favorites into Firefox? I think I will sure want that
