Installing Windows Vista on VMWare

Downloading Windows Vista (2.5 GB image I think) was a time consuming process. I was not getting more than 60 KB/Sec speed and the download stopped once in a while and I had to manually resume it. So after nearly 18 hours, it was downloaded completely. I had preconfigured my VMWare for installing Windows Vista (1.3 GB RAM, 6 GB hard disk and all). I fired up VMWare, started the installation, punched in the keys, next , created the 6 GB partion, clicked on ‘Format’, next and no luck. Got a message saying something like “Windows did not recognise the hard disk, please restart..”.

So I tried few types configuring different hard disk options with no luck. OK, now I am going to try this on Virtual PC and see if it works with that. If it does’nt work that way than and only than I will plan to install directly on my PC. Does anybody have any tips on getting it to work with VMWare?

Edit:- Looks like I might have find some solutions here. I found the following link on VMWare website Installing Windows Vista on VMWare. Will try this soon.

Meeting Mr. Anand M.

.NET From India

I met Anand M. yesterday. It was the same excitement of meeting somebody you have never met before and just know that person from his blog (this was my third time this month). Well Anand was on a business trip in Melbourne and then he flew to Sydney today. I met Anand in the evening along with my wife Komal, took him to my favorite Indian Restaurant on Malvern Road and then showed him around few places in the city. Overall we had a good time and I hope Anand had a good time with us as well.I was just thinking over our meeting last night and I totally forgot that I was meeting Anand for the first time. Our conversations were very normal, just after few minutes we were just talking like we have known each other for years. I showed him where MCG is, Federation Square and then took him to see Crown Casino.

Ah, this is where I learned to gamble from Anand. Last night I played pokkies for the first time and in total I won 30 dollars in on hour on pokkie machine.

I was so addicted that Anand and Komal had to drag me out of the Casino. It was like 1:10 in the morning when we said good bye to Anand. We had a great night out. Hey Anand, I truly wished if your friends could have joined us, but there is always a next time. Well as I always say, “world is getting a small place to live”.

Windows OneCare Live

Windows OneCare Live – Home

OK, so now I don’t think I will have to buy any more third party products from other vendors

. If Windows OneCare is a good firewall, antivirus software and will fine tune my machine than I can stop using Zone Alarm as my firewall and antivirus software and remove third party tools which do the fine tuning of my systems. Will this be a free product? I don’t think so but no harm in asking right?

I have signed up for beta but looks like they are only giving it away to the U.S. residents now. Let’s see if I can get the invite. Looks like soon Microsoft products will dominate the desktops again ( I hope this does’nt happen).

Windows Vista Beta 1 is on MSDN Downloads now

Just a quick news, Windows Vista Beta 1 is available through MSDN Downloads. I am going to download soon, actually looks like MSDN Subsribers site is heavily loaded, it is very slow. Hey Matt, I am getting my VMWare ready to that I can install this beast on it :). How is everybody else coping with the installation?

By the way, for next or so coming month, I think Windows Vista is what I will be discussing!

Bloody Brothers-Karmacy

Guys, this rap song is worth a look. Take a look at http://www.karmacy.com/. “Bloody Brothers” is a Gujarati rap song (one of the major Indian languages). It is about two brothers, one living life in India and other living his life in America and being successful and comparing lives in different countries. I think it’s excellent rap work and good video too. Direct links to the videos are as http://www.rukusavenue.com/BB_Web_sub_bug_large.wmv & http://www.rukusavenue.com/media/passage_mov_large.wmv .

As a Indian living overseas, I found the song touchy.

I am becoming an Uncle soon :)

Yeye, I am becoming an uncle soon. My good friend Tarang SHAH gave me the good news that Sejal (Tarang’s wife) is expecting. So far I thought one Tarang was good enough for this world, but now I realise we got to make room for Tarang Juniour (Mr. or Ms.):). Congratulations guys, indeed an exciting time for all of us. Make sure you get rid of all the hasty bad habbits before the child arrives ;).
