Improve your time quotient

Time Quotient = Results/Time. I am a believer of this formula and I am sure most of you would agree to this too. According to this formula, success if the results we achieve in a given amount of time.

To take an example without going into too much detail, whom would you consider successful? One who would have 2 million dollar in his account for his retirement or one who would be struggling to gather food on a week to week basis till his death? I would go with the first one!

There are many positive things that we can do to improve our Time Quotient. They can be small actions that can masively improve our TQ overall. One action I take to improve my TQ is to monitor where I spend my time, what results I get in the time I spent on a given task and continously monitor my actions so that I am getting more and better results for the time I spend. Getting more output with less input is smartness I think.

Monitoring time spend can be daunting times at time, but it does not have to be so. There are many ways on how time can be monitored; from using kitchen timer to monitor time taken to complete a task to using sophisticated software to track time spent using different applications on the computer and elsewhere to using sites like SlimTimer to monitor time spend on different projects/tasks.

With so many things happening around us on the Internet,Office,Home it is easy to get distracted from our main task and drify away. We can use time monitoring tools to not only monitor the time we spend on various tasks but also use it to constantly remind us to stay on track as well (as we are analysing our own time spent at the end). Earlier today I wrote a brief review on SlimTimer which is a simple website which can monitor the time we spend as individual or as a team on various tasks.

Since I have started monitoring where I spend my own time, I was simply writing the time I spend on a peice of paper at the end of the day and used to analyse it at the end of the week. But now I am going to give SlimTimer a good try, as it has the reporting tools I need and if I want I can analyse at the end of the day as to how I have spend my day.

Improve your Time Quotient (ThinkTq.com is a good site with some great tools) and as part of this monitor how wisely you are spending each and every minute of your day.

AOL betrayed it’s users

This is crazy act from AOL I believe. I am furious but would be crazy furious if I was a part of that list. What were they thinking!

Above all the data is now publicly available on the Internet. For heavy Internet surfers like me, from the search data it is easily able to link back to me even if my identity is changed just because time and time again I search for information that links back to me or relates to what I am doing.

Out of curiosity, I downloaded one search file, wow, somebody is a big fan of “Candice Michelle” (She is Godaddy.com Girl). From 1st March to 19th March, most of this seaches are going to porn sites or porn related search and wow he/she is one big searcher. He searched more then 5000 times :). But I will end my curiosity here. But I am sure people would have more time and energy then I have to go through the log files. One other blogger mentions how he found an ID that searched for ‘murder’ related content.

I am going to tag this post with “Studid Act” tag :).

Rebtel — Cheap alternatives to making cheap interstate and international phone calls

I wrote about Rebtel, a new way of making cheap interstate and international phone calls. I love the idea.

All things good, after using it a bit here is my concern! I signed up on Rebtel and registered my phone number (Call the number A) with them along with a international number and in return got a local number (Call it C) to call. All good so far. Now I use a non registered phone, call it B to make a call to phone number C. The Rebtel system tells me that the phone number B is not registered with the system and I should punch in Phone no. A followed by # key. I do that and the phone is connected to the international phone number.

Now what if somebody knows both my Phone no. A and phone no. C and wants to abuse my Rebtel account and waste my money?

Ah, is the idea that save local phone no. C as a safe secret password? ( I hope this makes sense and I haven’t confused you).

The logical thing is to just have somebody put somekind of security ID when using Phone no. B which is not registered with the service to call phone no. C.

May be somebody from Rebtel can answer this..

Did I say that the international call rates are cheaper then Skype and Yahoo too. I am having fun in this innovative world.

Edit: I did my calculations again and it does not come cheaper then Skype.

India rejects $100 laptops

Indian Ministry of Education has rejects $100 laptops for now. The Register has more details on this story. Reading the story I agree. India needs to focus on first making sure that every possible child in the country gets education and then worry about making them computer literate. Laptops would be good but not until there are enough schools in the country and enough facilities that the children can get their basic education.
