Wow, Indian police blog

Wow, Wow Wow. Of all the things that I think, I just don’t have a good image of Indian police in my mind. When I think of Indian police,”corrupt” is the word that comes to my mind. With so many Indian movies coming that shows Indian Police force as corrupt does not make this experience any richer. But still I hear about some really good stories from Indian Police Force from time to time(Google did not show me cool nicer sites).

A blog from a Indian Police Officer is not what I expected. But this is the fact. B.Dayananda IPS Superintendent of Police Dakshina Kannada District from Mangalore has started up a blog to keep public and media informed about the happenings in his area. Cool, he even has his contact details up on the blog. That’s great job, you make me feel proud. Keep up the good work and good luck. Yor earned my respect. I wonder if this IPS officer uses a RSS aggregator or if he uses service such as a blog search engine ?

Thanks to India Daily where I found the link. Subsribed to the blog as well.

Happy New Year all & let me begin this new year

Yes, I know this blog has been quite for long time now. I have taken a long needed break from blog and from online communities this time. Although I was around, I was just peeping once in a while to see what was going around. I am sure I have missed too much exciting especially with CES 2006 going on as well.Well although I was having a vacation, I took some time off to think about my blogging priorities, how much I am enjoying it, what would I like to do in future and where does it fit into my life for now. The news seems to be positive. Blogging and reading blogs have changed my life and I will continue that. So for now, I will get back to blogging both on here and on my other Technical Blog at Software And Tools. I think after formulating some strategy I will start looking for writers on my other blog. So if you are interested on writing technical blogs, either comment here or email me.

I have decided that I will use this blog primarily as my personal blog, although you will see duplicates of some of the posts that I make on Software And Tools blog from time to time (if they are too good and relevant, they will make their way here as well). I will blog here technical, non technical and all other ramblings that interests me.

Gmail adds two new excellent features

So ofcourse, I am still waiting for Google Calendar! But I found two new features in Google Mail today. One is Automatic Vacation Response and the other one is Groups feature for Gmail Contacts (sorry, no links here).

Both of them are really handy features, especially when you are using your Gmail address as your main email tool. I even use Gmail for work purposes. So let’s see Automatic Vacation Response First. So we can setup the vacation response settings and either configure to send the vacation message to everybody or to only people who are on my contact list.

The second one will become my favourite I think. It is groups for contacts. See the images below.

We can select the contact that we want to put in a group and click on “Add to group” button on the top. If you pull down the menu there is an option of ‘new group’ there. So name the group and that’s it. So from the screen above I created a group called ‘Daily Titbits’ and added 6 contacts in it. In the screen below you see the group created called ‘Daily titbits’ which includes the contacts that I added above.

Now what I have to do is when I compose the message, I just have to write ‘Daily titbits’ and all the 6 contacts will be loaded. Isn’t this faster and fun! Ofcourse this feature will save me time and increase my productivity. Also once I set up the groups the chances that I will forget to email somebody (who should be part of the group) the needed content will be reduced to minimal. So enjoy this nice features. But Google Calendar, where are you?

BlogJet 1.6.1 Released with even more better features

I must have missed the release of Blogjet 1.6, but not this time. I found out today that Blogjet 1.6.1 is released (this one now supports MSN Spaces). Don’t know what Blogjet is? Blogjet is a tool that can be used to blog directly to your blogs without even going to the web interface. Blogjet can be integrated in Firefox or into Internet Explorer. Right click in a window while in Firefox and just click on “Blogjet This” and you are on the go to create a blog

.

One feature that I was really looking forward too was Group Posting into multiple blogs at once. As I maintain multiple blogs ( www.itejas.com is the other one), there are times when I want to same information there too, so this should come handy. Other new features include as belows:-

NEW FEATURES

I will try to post this on my other blog using the Group Posting feature and see how it goes. One feature I would like to see is creation and insertion of Technorati Tags. I think that will definately come in handy.

I registered a .Name domain

Last night I registered a .name domain account and the name is http://www.tejaspatel.name and it gets redirected to this domain. As my name and my last name is so common, it’s hard to get a domain mame with TLD’s like .com,.net etc. I always wanted a domain name in my name, so I got it this time :).

In the future I will see what to do with it. But for now it’s secure. I might get domain names in my brothers name as well now.
